Find out more about his lab here I am the Research Scientist – Ocean Acidification and Coastal Resilience at the Downeast Institute (DEI) in Beals, Maine (https://www.downeastinstitute.org/). I lead laboratory and field-based research investigating how ocean acidification, warming, and other physicochemical stressors affect the life-history traits of commercially important shellfish such as lobsters, clams, and oysters. I am particularly interested in establishing a high-resolution monitoring network to detect changes in water chemistry that may influence shellfish health and distribution.
I am also the founder of NuWa Solutions, a start-up focused on nature-based strategies to reduce atmospheric CO2 through coastal enhanced weathering and blue carbon approaches (https://www.nuwasolutions.org/). In partnership with DEI, NuWa is conducting laboratory-based ocean alkalinity enhancement (OAE) trials to examine how various alkaline minerals influence shellfish development and carbonate system dynamics across different sediment types. This work supports the development of MRV (monitoring, reporting, and verification) protocols for candidate deployment sites and lays the foundation for future field-based assessments of ecological interactions and carbon accounting.
This work is complemented by broader scientific interest in the marine CO2-carbonate system, ocean biological pump/marine productivity, anthropogenic CO2 uptake, and terrestrial and ocean margin carbon export fluxes in the coastal ocean.
Scientist with 15+ years’ experience in oceanographic and climate science research. Published author & coauthor; presenting results in U.S.A., France, China, and Singapore. Excellent writing and communication skills; fluent in English and Chinese. Capable of using new and existing data in novel research to investigate broad range of topics while controlling data quality and documenting progress. Technical proficiency using Python, R, MATLAB, SQL, Surfer, Ocean Data View, IBM Watson Studio, and Microsoft Office.
